Road Test

Japanese women have been using marine collagen for its health benefits for over 300 years, and when Vida Glow founder, Anna Lahey, discovered this she was both intrigued and inspired. First, she did some research to learn more about marine collagen’s anti-ageing and health benefits. If you don’t already know, marine collagen is the most frequently occurring protein in humans, and it’s a major building block for the skin, bone and all other connective tissues. Our bodies naturally produce collagen, however, production starts to slow down in our mid-twenties, by our fifties and beyond it’s as good as stopped. This, in conjunction with external forces such as sun damage, a poor diet and toxins, results in ageing; for the skin that means fine lines and wrinkles, and for the rest of the body it can mean thinning hair, brittle nails and loss of muscle tone. After discovering all this, Anna started taking marine collagen herself, and quickly began seeing results. She then launched Vida Glow in 2014 with just one product, with marine collagen as the hero ingredient, evolving the company into a health brand offering a range of collagen-based powders. Fast-forward to October 2018, and Vida Glow has added a new skin care range to its lineup.

According to Anna, Vida Glow’s vision is to create a simple daily routine focussed on marine collagen to complement its powder supplements. All of the products feature marine collagen derived from a plant-based red algae, which helps to replenish lost collagen, address the signs of ageing, and rejuvenate the skin. The six-product skin care line includes Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser, a rich cleanser suitable for all skins including sensitive. It contains green tea, calendula, aloe vera and sandalwood to reduce redness and irritation, plus glycolic acid to penetrate deep into the pores and detoxify. To use, just massage two pumps onto wet or damp skin, and rinse off; it’s great at removing daily grime and makeup, and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth. Active Vitamin C Serum boasts an antioxidant-rich formula featuring hibiscus extract to combat wrinkles, sagging and dullness, and Kakadu plum and vitamin E to brighten the skin. Just apply a small amount to the face after cleansing, and see what a difference this product makes to your skin in just a few weeks. Emollient Moisturiser is packed with with deeply hydrating but gentle ingredients including cocoa and shea butters, grape seed, coconut and jojoba oils, and resveratrol which tackles free radicals and provides the skin with a protection barrier. Use twice daily after cleansing and your serum, and add an extra layer if your skin is particularly dehydrated.

Additional products you can also use as needed include Facial Exfoliator, which is super gentle and delivers a healthy, clear complexion using non-abrasive jojoba beads and bamboo. To boost your skin try the Antioxidant Rich Hydration Mask, which is emollient and nourishing, rich in shea and cocoa butters, green tea and Vitamin C, and leaves the skin feeling supple and smooth. After exfoliating, apply to skin and leave on for 20 minutes or so, once or twice a week. And rounding out the range, not forgetting your pout, is a Nourishing Lip Balm which aims to smooth, firm and regenerate lips, and is enriched with vitamins E & C as well as sweet almond, coconut and caster oils. Anna has plans to launch additional products in the near future, including hair care and body collections, and with this range she’s definitely on to a winning combination; effective skin care which produces results, is quite affordable, and is a pleasure to use.

    Allergy Problems?

Ive heard lots of good things about marine collagen....a friend is in the beauty biz....but I have been allergic to some collagen type skin creams in the past. Not sure I would risk it unless I could get a sample :)
