Road Test

Savvy beauty lovers are quickly discovering that not every approach to skin care can be the same. Besides the fact we have different issues or concerns, which can change for a variety of reasons including time and age, each person has a unique skin history, from their genetic makeup, to what’s happened to their skin in their lifetime. As a result, a large segment of the beauty industry is favouring customisable, targeted skin care. So if you’re in your 40s with combination skin and pigmentation, and you are prone to redness, for example, you can resolve these issues while having great looking skin by using just a few specialised products containing some key ingredients. UNIVERSKIN is one such bespoke skin care brand which can do this for you. Embracing the philosophy that each skin type is different, and that many mass manufactured cosmetics are not suited to an individual’s specific needs, it also believes in going back to basics, including the correct diagnosis of skin issues, then using effective ingredients in a customised prescription to treat these issues. I’ve written about the UNIVERSKIN system in a previous blog here, with a focus on general skin care, but when it comes to caring for the eye area the principles are basically the same.

For your eyes  specifically you will receive a prescription including a medical-grade serum which is specially mixed with one or more potent ingredients. Besides natural skin ageing, the main issues which always concern me about my eye area are dehydration and dark circles, and way to fix this was the Serum P Advanced Skin Rebalance Magistral Serum. This multi-purpose, soothing serum aids the regeneration and repair of the skin, and contains organic camelina oil, four key peptides, and hyaluronic acid, and any of the 19 active ingredients which UNIVERSKIN offers can be mixed with it. My serum contained three: niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, which aids skin inflammation, dry skin and hyperpigmentation; kojic acid, which deeply penetrates the skin to limit melanin production, while also minimising the appearance of dark spots; and madecassoside, an active ingredient derived from a medicinal plant which can stimulate collagen synthesis and control inflammation. The light serum was lovely to use, and it melted quickly into the eye area, leaving it feeling soft and smooth immediately. I used it exclusively for more than five weeks but noticed a difference early on. My eye area was smoother and less dehydrated, fine lines around the outer edges were softened and the dark circles less evident, all results which continued to improve over time.

Beauty In Travel Loves

  • Products are prescribed specifically to suit your skin concerns.
  • The eye serum can be used day and night making it ideal for travellers.
  • The products are free of chemical preservatives.
  • Your personalised formula can be fine-tuned over time as things change.
  • The products don’t come cheap, but a little goes a long way and they do what they promise.

Insider Tips

  • Active ingredients deteriorate in the months following formulation, and with UNIVERSKIN you have around six to eight weeks to use your serum from the day it’s mixed.
  • If you live in a very hot or humid climate, you can refrigerate any serums to keep them as fresh as possible.

I read both the articles on this brand, my only concern would be what if it doesn't work you've spent so much money on the creams? No try before you buy......a risk
