The Product: Ultimate Ears Wonderboom.

Best For: Anyone who loves music, but especially those who enjoy being on or near water.

Three Things We Loved: The sound quality, it is durable, the battery life is good.

Road Test:

If you’re anything like us you don’t leave home without having access to music of some sort. Whether it’s driving your car, sitting on a train or killing time on a long haul flight, for us music is essential. And there are times when you are kicking back, perhaps on the beach or around a pool, and you’re keen to share your music with whomever is travelling with you. Welcome to the latest innovation from Ultimate Ears, the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom. A mini Bluetooth speaker which looks like a shorter, fatter version of its sibling, the Ultimate Ears Boom 2, it's also water-resistant and comes in six very cool, on-trend colours. While a lot of small speakers promise plenty of bass, they often disappoint, but Wonderboom delivers what it promises given its petite size. It’s also solidly built, weighing in at around 425 grams, and although it doesn’t play music while it floats on water, the key thing is that if it gets wet or dirty, all you have to do is rinse it off and it is good as new.

This fabulous speaker has a number of cool features, including an integrated loop which allows you to attach the speaker to anything the loop can fit around, from a backpack to even a hook in your shower. As for buttons, there’s one on top of the speaker which lets you play, pause, skip tracks, as well as double up with a second Wonderboom speaker to enhance the sound (without becoming left/right stereo pairs) Battery life can also be an issue with mini speakers, but the Wonderboom offers a decent 10 hours, and it boasts an extended wireless range of up to 30 meters under the right conditions. To use it all you need to do is charge the unit using the bright yellow USB cable supplied (if it doesn’t already come that way), then pair it to your favourite device. I connected it to my iPhone in seconds.

The Verdict:

For its compact size, the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is affordable, durable, it looks cool, and it delivers top quality sound for a mini Bluetooth speaker. If you’re looking to take something on holiday that won’t take up too much room in your luggage, but has a big sound, it is one of the better sounding micro Bluetooth speakers you'll come across right now.

We loved the Ultmate Ears Wonderboom so much that have one to give away in Stone colour, plus an iTunes voucher, to a lucky winner in one of our latest holiday competitions. Click here for more details, or to enter!
