Travel and skin care are two of my favourite topics. Why? Because your skin often needs extra care before heading off on a holiday, just as it might for a special occasion. On holiday, though, your skin can go through a gamut of additional issues, from climate changes to air-conditioning or heating, long haul flights and more. Sometimes, you may also party a bit too hard, or you skimp on your beauty regime because you’re having too much fun, which means that the products you choose to pack in your suitcase carry all the more importance. And when it comes to looking tired, or old for that matter, your eyes are often the first to show the telltale signs, from darkness and eye bags, to just looking dull and dehydrated. A great eye cream can really help with all of this, whether you’re at home or on the road, and this new offering from Paula’s Choice is well worth considering.

Resist Anti-Ageing Eye Cream (rrp $54 for 15ml, www.paulaschoice.com) launched back in November and claims to do “it all” for the eyes; combat fine lines, sun damage, dryness, and other eye concerns thanks to a rich formula packed with goodies. They include antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and resveratrol, luxurious shea butter, peptides, and skin-identical ingredients including glycerin, sodium PCA and hydrogenated lecithin. And for anyone with sensitive eyes, myself included, also included in the formula are allantoin, beta glucan and sea whip extract, all of which have anti inflammatory properties. Overall this is a rich and power-packed complex which helps skin to retain moisture and boost suppleness, offers long lasting hydration, and even the cool silver tube the cream comes in in special; it’s designed to keep the ingredients in the formula stable to be more effective in the long term.

Enough of the science - what of its use? The formula is indeed rich, and although it’s called a nighttime eye cream you can use it during the day. In a hot or humid climate especially it might feel a little thick and sticky at first application, but give it a few minutes and the cream melts into the eye area, leaving it feeling soft and smooth and feeling like it has a protective barrier against the elements. Use it sparingly, though, and although the price tag is high it will go a long way. It also won’t irritate, and best of all your eyes will look well hydrated, and that means more youthful. Paula is famous for saying a long time ago that eye creams were somewhat redundant, and even though some may feel she has caved in by launching this product, it’s a terrific one which many women will love; particularly those looking for an power-packed anti-ageing eye cream which won’t irritate. Well done Paula!
