A facial sunscreen which not only protects your complexion but also has anti-ageing benefits and can be customised? Don’t be surprised, as it does exist.

  • What Is It: A new facial sunscreen designed to adapt to the needs and demands of different skin types.
  • Why buy: It protects your skin, it has anti-ageing benefits, and it helps combats pigmentation concerns.
  • The Details: Mesoestetic melan 130 pigment control costs rrp $79.80, available from various stockists nationally including beauty, skin and dermatology clinics.

Road Test

If you’re anything like me you wear a good quality sunscreen to keep your skin protected all year round. And when it comes to SPF numbers, most dermatologists will tell you that using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is best, as it blocks 97 percent of the sun's UVB rays. But if you’re into skin care, there’s often more to sunscreens than meets the eye. Blocking out the sun is one thing, but some of us are also looking to prevent skin ageing on another level; and if you can tackle specific skin issues, all the better. Mesoestetic Pharma Group has recently launched mesoprotech, a unique sunscreen range which uses a combination of sunscreen ingredients to optimise sun protection, along with carefully selected ingredients to adapt to the demands of different skins. In short, the products in the range are designed to prevent premature ageing with different product formulations to suit different skin types, from normal, dry and oily, to combination, pigmented and sensitive. I was offered a road test of one of the range, so I opted for a tube of melan 130 pigment control, as pigmentation is a personal concern for me.

The sunscreen has a very high SPF factor at 50+ and is ideal for pigmented skins, along with anyone undergoing cosmetic treatment, has skin affected by hormonal changes, or is photosensitive. It aims to help prevent the appearance of sunspots, and contains pigments to avoid leaving a white residue on the skin. That means it’s lightly tinted, which softens imperfections and gives you a more even skin tone. Key ingredients in the formula include Mesoprotech Complex, a combination of sunscreen ingredients exclusive to Mesoestetic to protect from UVA/UVB radiation, visible light and IR, also Collagen Pro-47, a plant-derived ingredient which boosts proteins to prevent the degradation of collagen, and Azeloglycine, which regulates tyrosinase, responsible for the melanin synthesis, thereby preventing dark spots. This sunscreen has a lovely, lightweight formula which blends onto the skin easily, it smells nice, and it leaves your skin looking healthy and dewy. Using the product is easy; simply the recommended amount of 2mg (large pea size) to clean, dry skin about half an hour before sun exposure.
