Road Test

We’ve had a pretty balmy autumn so far here in southeast Queensland, including some low humidity days, which for some people, myself included, can mean the start of lip problems including dryness. But as many travellers discover, it’s not just low humidity and cooler weather which cause problems; heat, strong winds, and sun exposure are also culprits. Our lips have over a million nerve endings, making them super sensitive, and they don’t have sweat glands or oil-producing pores, relying solely on a few layers of skin cells to protection them from the elements. As a result, it’s easy for lips to become dry, dehydrated, sore or chapped, with many people turning to lip balms for extra protection or help. Not all products are equal or even good for your lips, however, with some products or ingredients being too harsh, or highly addictive, making your lips drier and more distressed in the longterm. So when I was asked to road test the first lip balm from Medik8, called Mutiny, I was intrigued. Mutiny is different from may lip balms on the market as it’s not a temporary fix for dry lips and it actually improves the appearance and texture of the lips long-term. Instead, this lip balm has a nourishing, squalane-based formula which absorbs into the lips to replenish lost lipids, while also providing skin-like protection to prevent lost moisture, encourage natural healing, and feed the lips with essential emollients for long-lasting hydration. There are three key ingredients in the formula which include natural squalane, which replenishes lost oils to leave lips moisturised, soft and healthy, and sea buckthorn oil, which is believed to be one of the only plant foods known to provide all four omega fatty acids, and provide long-lasting moisture. And the third key ingredient is multi-weight hyaluronic acid, which has the unique ability to attract and retain an abundance of water. To use Mutiny, simply apply to your lips using fingertips as often as required. At the first sign of autumn dry lips I put this lip balm to the test, and I haven’t stopped using it since, so if you’re looking for a solution to dry or chapped lips, this ultra-hydrating lip balm not only provides instant relief but also offers long-lasting results. And lips which are beautifully moisturised, soft and supple.

Beauty In Travel Loves

  • The balm melts into a light oil on application.
  • It absorbs beautifully and instantly boosts the appearance of your lips.
  • It provides long lasting hydration.

Insider Tips

  • To keep your lips in tip top shape you can exfoliate them once or twice a week to remove any dead skin. One way to do this is apply a thick layer of lip balm to your lips, and brush using a clean toothbrush and circular motions. Alternatively you can mix honey with sugar, massage into your lips, leave for a few minutes and remove with a face cloth.
  • To wake up to super soft and supple lips, apply a thick layer of Mutiny before you go to sleep so it can work as a nourishing, overnight lip mask.

I started using this brand last year after I had some mature age skin problems. Have never looked back. The products are pricey but they work and a little goes a long way. This sounds ideal, maybe just as a night treatment rather than something you'd use all day long.

Haven't heard of this brand before, and that's an expensive lip product when vaseline would probably do the same job
