This stunning, luxury boutique hotel in central Budapest was built in 1880 and offers both a romantic getaway and a comfortable, elegant retreat for travellers.

  • Location: Well placed on stylish Andrassy Avenue, the hotel is close to all of Budapest’s spectacular sights.
  • Accommodations: The hotel has 99 tastefully decorated, art deco accommodations. They are all set around an impressive atrium in categories, ranging from Superior and Executive Rooms, to the Junior, Andrassy and Basilica Suites. Ranging in size from 21 square metres to 79 square metres, the décor incorporates both contemporary and traditional elements yet features clean lines and simplicity. Each room is both cleverly functional and compact while retaining the style and grandeur of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
  • Dining options: At Bistro Fine, the food is clean, fresh and colourful with both Hungarian and international standards offered to cater for all travellers. It’s a casual yet sophisticated venue serving plenty of goulash and schnitzel as well as fresh fish and burgers and there’s a wide selection of good wines available by the glass. There’s also a lively alfresco area where the airy space plays host to a breakfast buffet spread that caters to all tastes and nationalities.
  • What else is there: There’s a well-appointed guest lounge with complimentary tea, espresso, mineral water and snacks 24 hours a day, and the friendly and efficient staff are happy to help with directions and advice. The hotel also has an on-site sauna and fitness room and offers free high-speed Wi-Fi. A small business centre is tucked beside the hotel’s beautiful latticed cast iron and marble staircase that provides easy room access as an alternative to the elevator.
  • What’s nearby: Andrassy Avenue boasts a lineup of high-class fashion stores, cafes, fine dining and historic attractions. It’s easy to negotiate many of the city’s most charming sights on both sides of the river, like the State Opera House, The Museum and the Palace, by foot although the city’s efficient and reliable subway system is also extremely accessible.
  • Why go:  From the moment you arrive you feel you have found the heart of Budapest and exploring it is easy for both young and old. It is ideal for romantic getaways and those seeking to familiarise themselves with life in the former communist city.

The Space

Hotel Moments is a new, stylish, luxury boutique hotel located on Budapest’s most prominent street. Over more than a century, the building has, at various times, been used as a cinema, a hardware store and a bank. It was originally commissioned by local tobacco merchant, Hendrik Schossberger and became known as Schossberger Palace. This 19th century neo-renaissance classic has been tastefully modernised to reflect the re-emergence of central Europe. Its façade has been faithfully restored and inside, what was once a courtyard, is now a sophisticated glass covered lounge and lobby with fine decorative fittings, frescos and plenty of light to soften the formality. Some of the original design elements have been retained, in particular the decorations on the downstairs ceiling by famed Magyar painter Karoly Lotz. It epitomises old-world Europe with a modern vibe.

Where We Stayed

We were fortunate to enjoy one of the hotel’s Executive corner rooms which offered a close-up view of the city. The mix of modern and traditional décor in muted shades of light chocolate and plum combined with black and beige carpets to provide a relaxed and warm feel. Double windows ensured all street noise was avoided while heavy drapes blocked out light. The spacious bathroom boasted a frosted glass door and large windows that opened to allow fresh air and a feel of the street life below. Coupled with fluffy robes and slippers, it’s abundant natural light, huge mirrors and array of Vittore de Conti toiletries was a real treat for weary travellers.

    Looks Nice

I was in Budapest last year ending a river cruise and our accommodation was provided for 3 nights included in our package. If I had been seeking out a place to stay independently, though, this looks like it would have ticked all the boxes. It's got a great location, isn't too big, and looks like it's very stylish with some history thrown in. Perhaps next time?

Haven't been to Budapest for years, but I have friends there and would love to go back again. This hotel looks amazing.....boutique, with lots of style and fun to stay at. One of my favourite things to do in Budapest is go to a thermal bath to soak in history and relax. In case you don't know, Budapest is built on top of natural springs and thermal waters.....it's a great and unique experience.
