Road Test
There are three things I’ve always loved, and spent copious money on as an adult; gorgeous lipsticks, expensive perfume, and top quality lingerie. They’re also three things I won’t travel without, but when it comes to lingerie, combining comfy with something that looks good has always been a challenge. What I in pack in my suitcase needs to tick a number of boxes, especially being easy to wear when you’re on the road, or flying long haul. In the past I often found there was a sacrifice to make when it came to choosing bras to travel with - style for comfort - but then I discovered Berlie’s Barely There range and never looked back. And this new collection, a collaboration featuring some of the prints of iconic Aussie artist and style maven Florence Broadhurst, has just made comfort-meets-practical that bit more fun. During a long and esteemed career during the 1900s, Florence Broadhurst was renowned for brightly coloured geometric and nature-inspired oversized designs, and her design archive grew to over 500 images ranging from tapestries to geometrics, florals, psychedelic, and eccentric chinoiserie. Thanks to Berlei, some of her most iconic oriental prints have been brought back into the spotlight, and back to life, in a new Autumn-Winter collection. They include the revered prints Maiden Hair, Japanese Floral and Spotted Floral, appearing in Barely There (A-E cups) and Lift & Shape (D-G cups) bras with matching underwear. I was sent two Barely There sets to road test: a T-Shirt print bra with matching high-cut micro brief in Spotted Floral; and Luxe T-Shirt bra with matching deluxe midi brief in Maiden Hair. This new collection is pretty, feminine and bold, and made from sumptuous fabrics, the Spotted Floral with a soft pink background and wine coloured flowers, while the Maiden Hair with a dark green background and black and soft pink flowers. Both sets were super comfortable to wear, smooth, stretchy, and felt cosy against the skin. And in terms of design features, some of the key ones in the bras have include underwires to lift and shape, moulded cups to make it invisible under T-shirts and tight clothing, and self covered comfort straps to provide you shape and support. As ever, the Barely There T-Shirt bras really live up to their promises on all fronts, so if you’re looking for a bra for day-to-day wear, or travelling, which not only looks great, but also offers smooth lines, a natural shape, and all without minimising comfort, this new range from Berlei should be on your shopping list.
