Where Is It: Spring Hill, Brisbane.

Why Go: It’s within striking distance of “The Valley” and the CBD.

Three Things We Loved: Its location, the fresh contemporary rooms and the great breakfast.

The Ultimate Factor: This is a historical building which gives a snapshot of Brisbane from 100 years ago.

Overview:

In its former life the Mantra Richmont was a boarding house for “respectable gentlemen” and its renovation and redesign as a modern hotel captures its historical past. It’s an elegant property in the inner suburb of Spring Hill which puts its guests within easy striking distance of the trendy bar and restaurant district of Fortitude Valley, the Brisbane CBD and the river front with its own unique and lively scene.

The Accommodation:

There are three types of accommodation: hotel rooms, rooftop terrace rooms and the Richmont Room. As you’d expect, the hotel rooms are contemporary and designed for those on a business trip or weekend getaway and have a queen bed. (There are “hotel superior rooms” which have the added benefit of a private terrace or balcony). The rooftop terrace rooms have a large outdoor terrace with seating area and have nice district views while the Richmont Room is the largest accommodation with a king bed and a double sofa bed which makes it ideal for families. All rooms have air conditioning, large LCD TVs, Foxtel and digital, free in-room WiFi, and iPod docking facilities.

Dining:

The Kennigo Social House is the pride and joy of the Mantra Richmont and is a restaurant which captures Brisbane’s bygone era. It’s a classic boarding house kitchen of yesteryear which has been redesigned into a modern restaurant which is also popular with the Brisbane locals. There’s also al fresco dining and a great little outdoor bar for pre-dinner drinks in a relaxed haven. During the day, the Kennigo Espresso Cafe serves good coffee and inexpensive snacks. There’s also a gym on site.

Where We Stayed:

We were in a Richmont King room which was spacious inside and out with a large queen bed in a living area which also included a comfortable two seater lounge and coffee table, a study desk, a Vittoria coffee machine with two free pods, a large bathroom and outdoor seating on a verandah with views out over Spring Hill and Fortitude Valley. The understated elegance of the furnishings was complemented by modern artwork with splashes of colour in a quirky and uplifting setting.

What Else Is There:

There are good business facilities if you’re there for work, 24 hour reception and a tour desk if you want to book a day out.

The Verdict:

If you’re looking for comfortable accommodation at a good price close to the entertainment district of Fortitude Valley and the Brisbane CBD, then the Mantra Richmont provides the perfect base for a weekend getaway.
