Regent Seven Seas Voyager Asian Cruise Blog #8

There's a lot more Chinese tourists around the world these days and when they get going in a tour group, you gotta toughen up and be prepared to do battle if you're going on the tourist trail. We've landed in the Taiwanese port of Keelung, which serves the capital Taipei, and were on a full day tour to the city. There were three busloads of Regent guests doing this tour and another two doing a half day version, which were split up to the various sights to avoid congestion, and when we landed at the National Palace Museum there was another 15 or so tourist buses with mostly Chinese visitors and it made for a pretty chaotic first stop in Taipei.

It seems many of the visitors from China are not bothered about personal space and are keen to push in to take a look at the ancient artefacts on display and we quickly learned to stand our ground and adopt a kind of blocking procedure to prevent us from being shoved out of the way. It was an annoying but amusing way to look at Taiwan's most famous tourist attraction which is one of the best collections of Chinese antiquities in the world.

Also included in this tour was a call at the Martyr's Shrine with the Changing of the Guard, a buffet lunch at the Grand Hotel, the beautiful Lungshan Temple, the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and a quick photo stop at world second tallest building, Taipei 101.

A busy old day but a good way to see Taipei .. steaming toward Incheon, South Korea, and we hit some pretty rough seas overnight which kept a lot of people quiet.
