Pioneer has rolled out its latest in-car navigation and entertainment system and this is a serious piece of kit that will get you where you want to go,while at the same time provide music and movies for front and back seat passengers.

The Pioneer AVIC-F950DAB has a 6.1 inch touch screen and includes precise in-built navigation, a DVD player, superior connectivity and loads more. Pioneer claims it’s about two years ahead of the standard GPS/audio systems in most modern cars, and while its competitors may argue the point, this system has been receiving rave reviews.

(We're running a travel competition where you could win one of these Pioneer navigation and entertainment systems, to the value of AU$1,699)

The in-built navigation comes with pre-installed Navteq maps which are easy to use and have advanced route guidance. You can even minimise delays by navigating around heavy traffic and road accidents, thanks to the built-in RDS-TMC tuner powered by SUNA.

The Pioneer AVIC-F950DAB also has great connectivity which means you can easily connect many Android and iOS smartphones to the unit, including the  iPhone 5!, and it connects to iPod as well. The USB port means you can connect your music-filled flash drive or external hard drive.

Other features include Pioneer’s AppRadio Mode, which lets you control your compatible iPhone and Android apps on the touch screen. The AppRadio app also allows you to enjoy internet radio and your iTunes music library via the touch screen.

The system also allows you to take phone calls hands-free via bluetooth.

And as for music, the system has crystal-clear digital audio with DAB+ radio and 18 presets. With DAB+ there’s a wider choice of radio stations available and the ability to pause and rewind live radio.

The system also helps you discover new tunes through the Pandora app (free), which is personalised internet radio that’s designed to help you discover new music that you’ll love, mixed in with music that you already know. Other options when it comes to playing your tracks include CD, DVD and even SD card.

It’s one of those systems which will be hugely popular with families, as mum or dad can navigate up front with the GPS and their favourite music while the kids can watch a DVD in the back. It means the days of “are we there yet?” might well be over.

Pioneer’s AVIC-F950DAB retails for $1699. Available from JB Hi-Fi, Autobarn and specialist dealers. To find your closest retailer visit pioneer.com.au.
