Le Parker Meridien, New York

Mae Gene-Yew

Where Is It: Midtown Manhattan, New York City, NY

Why Go: Conveniently located in the Big Apple, Le Parker Meridien is accessible to major tourist spots and this luxury hotel also has the best views of Central Park.

Best For: Couples or families after a luxury hotel without the stuffy feel.

Three Things We Loved: Views overlooking Central Park, the hotel’s central New York location and having so many dining options available within the hotel.

The Ultimate Factor: This luxurious hotel has stunning views of Manhattan

Located in Midtown Manhattan and a short walk from key New York attractions such as the famous Fifth Ave shopping area, the Empire State Building and the Museum of Modern Art, it’s hard not to feel a part of the Big Apple when staying at this luxury hotel. While close to major tourist attractions and a short 5-minute walk from the subway, the hotel stays well away from the tourist trapped Times Square. A mixture of old grandeur and new city, majestic marble arches adorn the high ceiling lobby, with a dash of contemporary artwork over the reception desk. The luxury hotel also includes a 2-floor gym, 4 restaurants, a barber shop, an underground wellness spa and a top-floor swimming pool, with wall to wall glass offering classic New York City views while you exercise.

The Accommodation:

There are a range of accommodation types available, from studios to suites, all with impressive living rooms and entertainment spaces. Space, being a common restraint in New York City hotels, is not an issue in these rooms and all rooms are greater than 303 square feet (or 28 square meters). Rooms are furnished in modern contemporary décor, featuring amenities including climate control, a 46” flat screen TV, high-speed internet and a generous work space with an ergonomic desk chair for those who may be working away from home. All suites also feature a separate living room with a sofa bed for families, a dining area and a kitchenette in the larger suites. The real drawcard for the hotel is the classic New York City views – guests can choose from staying in a room facing Central Park or facing the Manhattan skyline.

Where I Stayed:

My room for the night was a Tower Room on the 41st floor. The studio was spacious, especially given New York’s reputation for small hotel rooms and apartments. The living and study area included a sofa, coffee table, a large wood panelled desk and ergonomic study chair. Decorated in a modern contemporary style, the sleeping area features a king size bed and flat screen TV. The bathroom is bright with marble flooring and features a bathtub/shower combo. Also in the room is a walk-in wardrobe, with ample space to hang clothes and coats, an in-room safe and extra space for luggage or shopping.

The real draw card of the room is the breath-taking views of Central Park, visible from both the window in the sleeping area and the large windows facing the study desk. It’s hard to escape or forget where you are when waking up here.

What Else Is There: Dining

It’s hard to know where to start when it comes to dining options at Le Parker Meridien. The property has four very different eateries. Breakfast is not included in the room rate but is available at NORMA’s, an American diner located in the lobby. Meals are hearty and served in typical New York portions, after all, this is the city where everything is bigger. Coffee and tea are served during the day at Knave, a gothic style walkway coffee shop which becomes a bar in the evenings. Lunch and dinner are available at Indian Accent, a high-end Indian restaurant or, at the Burger Joint. Only identifiable by the easy to miss neon burger sign, the Burger Joint offers a casual American staple. A hit amongst guests and New Yorkers, lines are constant, even at 4pm!

The Verdict:

The magic of Le Parker Meridien is its ability to take the best of New York – the beautiful city views, hidden burger joints and old school barbers to provide an oasis that makes you feel part of one of the most exciting cities in the world, without being overwhelmed. The views are second to none, and when it’s time to go, you’ll miss waking up to the red, orange and yellow autumn leaves adorning Central Park.
