Road Test

Although wine may have an impressive and long history behind it, in my view gin has arguably the most fascinating story. This unusual juniper-based spirit has quite a tale to tell, from its medicinal use origins in the 1600s in Holland to sparking riots in Europe the 1700s, but what used to be dubbed “mothers ruin” has evolved into a very modern tipple. In recent years especially, people across the globe have been rediscovering the delights of gin, and last year the Wild Hibiscus Flower Company came up with the perfect way to bring the holiday spirit to gift giving - Gingle Bells. Undoubtedly a specialty product, Gingle Bells, is something every gin and holiday season lover will covet. It’s a gift set of six, eye-catching, hand made floral gin baubles, each one filled with Australian dry gin crafted in their own distillery. But what makes Gingle Bells gin that little bit special is that the gin is infused with a lineup of different natural botanicals to give each one a distinctive flavour and colour. Flavours include Finger Lime, B’Lure Butterfly Pea Flower, Wattleseed, Snow Chrysanthemum, Wild Hibiscus and Pepperberry. Each bauble’s botanical flavour can be seen in its centre, with an ethereal floral element encased inside. And to ensure the receiving gin lover knows exactly how best to best make use of the extraordinary flavours, there’s a collection of matching cocktail recipes included in the pack. The gift set includes two 54ml baubles at 37% alcohol volume and four 50ml baubles at 40% alcohol volume. Although they are all delicious, a favourite flavour for us is the Finger Lime Gin. Like a snow dome, you need to shake the bauble to release the lime juice balls inside. Aptly, they float round like snow flakes, and it makes a delicious Gin-F-Bomb, with the lime juice balls dancing in the bubbles and popping in your mouth as you savour it. Wild Hibiscus Flower Company has been in the craft cocktail industry for 21 years, and its founder, Lee Etherington, is spot on when he says that Gingle Bells is an ideal gift for gin lovers, and anyone who’s hard to buy for. Whether you buy this gift set for someone you love, or just to spoil yourself, Gingle Bells will no doubt make lasting memories this holiday season. Loves
