From Hong Kong to Vancouver, some of the world’s great spas cover the expanse of the Pacific Ocean.
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong
Tucked across two hushed floors of one of Central's most storied five-star addresses, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental is a sanctuary of dark woods, flickering candlelight and softly lit treatment suites, each with its own private shower and vitality pool. Widely regarded as one of the city's finest, it draws on centuries-old Asian healing traditions and offers an extensive menu of face and body therapies, including several signature rituals. The most indulgent of these is the "Oriental Harmony", a mesmerising treatment performed by two therapists working in perfect synchronicity. This 110-minute journey begins with a warming foot ritual using ginger and lemongrass, followed by a full body exfoliation with sea salt and essential oils to gently buff the skin. Tension then melts away under a four-handed massage that blends Thai, Balinese and Chinese techniques, mirrored strokes tracing the body's meridian lines. A soothing scalp and neck massage with warm oil follows, before the session closes with a gentle face and décolleté treatment that leaves the skin visibly glowing. The result is a dream-like sense of calm — mind, body and spirit in quiet alignment.
The Day Spa by Chuan at The Langham, Sydney
Hidden beneath one of Sydney’s most elegant harbourside addresses, The Day Spa by Chuan at The Langham is a serene subterranean sanctuary where the hum of the city gives way to flickering candlelight, warm natural textures and the soft shimmer of a dramatic 20-metre indoor pool set beneath a fibre-optic star-lit ceiling. Rooted in the five-element philosophy of traditional Chinese wellness — wood, fire, earth, metal and water — the spa offers an extensive menu of bespoke face and body therapies, drawing on German BABOR formulations alongside Chuan’s signature therapeutic blends. One of the signature Chuan spa journeys begins with a grounding herbal foot ritual, followed by a full-body exfoliation, targeted massage work and a personalised BABOR facial tailored to the skin’s needs. It begins with a warming herbal foot ritual to ground the senses, followed by a full-body exfoliation with a fragrant herbal salt scrub that leaves the skin silky and awakened. A deeply restorative back, neck and shoulder massage works through the tensions of modern urban life with long, rhythmic strokes, before the journey closes with a detoxifying BABOR facial, tailored to your skin’s needs. The result is a rare, elemental kind of calm that lingers long after you step back out onto the Sydney streets.
Mandara Spa at the Westin Resort Guam
Located within one of Tumon Bay’s most popular beachfront resorts, Mandara Spa is a tranquil Balinese-inspired retreat that has become a byword for tropical indulgence across the Pacific. Drawing on the centuries-old healing traditions of Indonesia, the spa offers an extensive menu of face and body treatments blending Eastern philosophies with island-grown ingredients — think frangipani, coconut, ginger and fresh sea salt. The standout experience is the "Mandara Massage", the brand's globally celebrated signature treatment, performed by two therapists working in flawless synchrony. This 80-minute ritual fuses Eastern and Western massage techniques into one seamlessly choreographed journey. It begins with a gentle welcome foot bath and a consultation to choose your preferred aromatherapy oil, before four hands move in mirrored rhythm along every pressure point of the body, releasing tension from the shoulders down to the soles of the feet. The treatment closes with a soothing warm towel wrap and a quiet moment of stillness — a deep, almost meditative calm that feels worlds away from the bustle of Tumon.
Olakino wellness Experience at Wailea Beach Resort
Overlooking the Pacific along Maui’s sun-drenched south-shore coastline, Olakino at Wailea Beach Resort is a first-of-its-kind adults-only wellness sanctuary that reimagines the traditional day spa as something altogether more immersive. Centred on a private saline infinity pool with sunken in-water chaises and sweeping ocean views, the experience invites guests to reserve a full day of curated wellness — from rotating mini spa treatments and cooling face rituals to sound-bath meditations, acupuncture, guided movement sessions and poolside relaxation. Programming flows through four daily themes rooted in Hawaiian philosophy: La‘i for tranquillity and harmony, Ala to awaken the senses through movement, Konea for restorative fluid practice, and A‘o for cultural knowledge and the healing arts. Chef-curated island dishes and fresh juices arrive throughout the day, woven seamlessly into the rhythm of treatments. Cabanas, daybeds and plush loungers offer a hideaway for every mood, while the saltwater infinity pool draws you back again at golden hour. It’s less a spa in the old sense than a slow, sunlit day devoted entirely to feeling human again.
Vida Wellness Spa at the Sutton Place Hotel, Vancouver
Vida is a well-known name in Vancouver’s growing spa market, and this is one of two locations in the city. It’s also convenient for the downtown area, so if you tire of exploring on foot, you can take the weight off your feet here with a range of indulgent face and body treatments. Like many spas today, there are options for couples to share the same treatment at the same time. And at Vida Wellness, one of these is a custom-designed Ayurvedic massage. According to the principles of Ayurveda, we each inherit a unique composition of three “doshas” or elements. For the massage to be right for your needs, you fill in a questionnaire beforehand so that the therapist can establish your individual dosha. The massage uses your custom-blended oils on the entire body in a style which stimulates the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins. Yet it’s also relaxing, helps to loosen joints, and is a great stress buster. The massage can be enjoyed for 60, 90 or 120 minutes.
Editor's note: This article was first published several years ago and has been updated in April 2026 to reflect the changes that have swept through the Pacific's luxury hospitality scene since — including hotel rebranding, spas moving between properties, and several venues closing their doors. Where the original recommendations were no longer current, we've replaced them with the destination's leading equivalent.
