Travel Tips: How To Choose The Best Sunglasses To Suit Your Face Shape

By:

Sunglasses are more than just an important year-round accessory; they protect your eyes from harmful radiation, they reduce fatigue created by glare and, of course, they enhance your overall image. The key to choosing the right pair to suit you, however, begins with knowing what face shape you have. Everyone is an individual, but many of us fall into one of five primary groups; square, oblong, round, oval or heart shaped. While some people’s faces match perfectly with these shapes, others may fall between two or more types. A basic principle when choosing frames is to focus on something that is the opposite of your face’s shape. For example, if you have angular features, or a very square-shaped faced, choosing glasses with a round-shaped frame can help to soften your appearance. On the other hand, if your face and features are naturally round, then square or rectangular frames with strong angles can help to add definition to your look. When it comes to shopping for EXYRA sunglasses, here are some tips to help you pick the right frames, and look fabulous.

How To Determine Your Face Shape

One simple way to do this is to take a washable marker, a lipstick, a piece of soap, or a crayon, then stand at arm’s length in front of a mirror. Trying not to let your hand stray too much, trace the outline of your face on the mirror’s surface following your reflection, starting at the point of your chin at the bottom, and ending at at your hairline at the top. Once finished, take a step back and look at the shape you’ve drawn to get an idea of what type you are.

Square

If you have a square face, your jaws, cheeks and forehead will have sharply defined angles, and your face won’t taper, or narrow significantly towards the bottom. Sunglasses with curved or rounded frames will help soften the contours of your face, while a frame that’s thicker at the top can focus attention higher on your face, and distract from the strength of your jawline. Also, choosing slightly wider frames can make your face appear narrower.

Oblong

If your face is long and narrow you have an oblong-shaped face. People with this face shape either have softer, more rounded facial contours, or harder, squarer facial contours – especially around the forehead and jawline. If your features are angular, rounded frames can soften them, while squarer frames can add definition if your features are rounder. Either way you’ll probably want to avoid accentuating the length too much. Large frames with bold colours and patterns, or strong geometric angles, will catch the eye, and help break up your face’s apparent length.

Round

A round-shaped face is roughly as wide as it is long. If this is you, you’ll probably have full cheeks, a forehead which tapers evenly, and a smooth jawline. Round glasses are best avoided – instead, opt for square or angular frames to add a sense of definition to your face and features.

Oval

An oval-shaped face is mid-way between an oblong and round shape, with well-balanced features and proportions. Typically, your forehead will be a little wider than your chin, and your cheek bones will be a little higher than average. Many styles will look perfect on this face shape, but you may want to avoid very round shapes, opting instead for frames with defined top corners to accentuate the taper towards your jaw, which makes it appear thinner and more defined. This shape of frame will also bring out the contours of your cheeks.

Heart

A heart-shaped face starts narrow, with a slimline chin and jaw, before opening out towards a wider forehead. People with heart-shaped faces should avoid over-emphasising the natural triangle between the forehead and chin. The best frames to go for are round or oval, as they can help prevent your face from appearing too pointed.

Choosing EXRYA Sunglasses To Suit Your Face Shape

Fortunately EXYRA has frames to suit all face shapes, and all genders. The Hogan is a great place to start, as these aviator sunglasses are flattering to most faces. The curved lenses and linear lines of the brow bar provide a gentle yin and yang to help balance things out. They’re also a good all-rounder, working well with smart or casual outfits. Another universally flattering frame is the Clarke. These sunglasses are the perfect balance of style and performance, being timeless and adding casual-cool to your look. Hexagon-shaped sunglasses are an easy way to stand out from the crowd, and the six-sided frame in the Robbie brings a fashionably cool flair to your face, while also providing a modern twist on traditional sunglasses shapes.

Meanwhile the Jedda softens the impact of the style, and can be worn by almost any shape face with a wider frame across the face, whereas the over-sized Delta sunglasses are not only on-trend but also super functional, covering the delicate skin around your eyes to protect your skin as well as your eyes. If you like the idea of a fiercely fabulous look, opt for the Kalina. These super stylish cat eye glasses suit a variety of face shapes, while also being classy and sophisticated. And finally, you can be retro and add class to your look with the Byron. These sunglasses are creative, artistic, innovative and charismatic in their appeal, crafted in finely handcrafted acetate with a light-mock wood finish, and a Wayfarer style ideal for summer and beachwear.
