Luxury Hotel Review: Ramada Eco Beach, Broome

Where Is It: 130 kilometres south of Broome.

Why Go: It has an isolated location right on the beach.

Best For: Couples looking for a quiet, no-fuss beach holiday although the resort is family friendly.

Three Things We Loved: The private pools, the dining, the expansive countryside.

The Ultimate Factor: Isolation with all mod cons and more.

The Ramada Eco Beach is located in the heart of the beautifully rugged Kimberley region in the far north of Western Australia and situated on one of the region’s most stunning stretches of coastline. It is at the end of a 10 kilometre stretch of unsealed road that runs off the main highway and it is accessible for most vehicles and the luxury hotel describes itself as “accessible wilderness” which is a good description. As an eco resort, it aims to minimise its impact on the environment while allowing guests to enjoy all that this wilderness retreat has to offer.

The Accommodation:

There’s a choice of either 25 Eco Villas interlinked by one kilometre of elevated boardwalks, 30 Eco Tents or for larger groups, Beach Houses. The Eco Villas are quite spacious and have the latest environmental features such as solar power, energy efficient LED lights, louvre windows, bamboo floors and composite eco decking, but they have been built quite close together so privacy can be an issue in some of them; if you’re not in one of the Ocean Front Villas then your view will probably be of another villa. The Eco Tents are designed to bring guests even closer to nature but they are quite comfortable and have a private front deck which is big enough for two people to sit and enjoy a cool drink. Like the Villas, some tents have full ocean views but the others do not. The tents do have king beds and bedside tables and an ensuite shower and there’s also an esky supplied (ice has to be purchased from the bar).

Where We Stayed:

Our home for two nights was a one-bedroom Ocean View Villa which has some glimpses of the water along with neighbouring villas. It had a large open plan living area with a kitchenette, along with a good sized bedroom with king bed, and ensuite bathroom. The colour palette was earth tones including warm wood, chocolate and rich beige along with splashes of colour in the living room couch and bedroom cushions which were bright green and red. In room facilities included air conditioning as well as a fan, free tea and coffee, a fridge, a microwave, and free Wi-Fi.

What Else Is There:

The infinity pool is absolutely divine, and there’s plenty of activities to keep you on the move, including walking trails, fishing trips, whale watching cruises, nature tours, kayaking, stand up paddle boards, and sunset cruises. Most of these activities will cost extra. There is also the Dragonfly Day Spa which offers daily yoga classes and a limited menu of treatments from facials to massage. Jack’s Bar & Restaurant is the only dining venue; it overlooks the infinity pool and the beach and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is continental and there are hot food options, lunch is a casual event with fresh salads, burgers and other dishes, while dinner features a larger a-la-carte menu with fresh local produce dominating the offerings. Jack’s also offers takeout alcohol at reduced prices for you to enjoy in your accommodation.
The Verdict:

As a romantic getaway, the location of Eco Beach can’t be faulted and this is a great place to experience the unique Kimberley wilderness.
