Luxury Hotel Review: BLUE Sydney

This 5 star property set on Woollomooloo Bay in Sydney has been receiving rave reviews as an ideal romantic getaway located on a luxury marina with views of the Sydney skyline, the harbour foreshore and the Royal Botanic Gardens. It's become a favourite with locals looking for a weekend getaway or overnight city break and with regular business travellers to Sydney. The BLUE is at the start of Finger Wharf which is a renovated piece of history which stretches into Woolloomoloo Bay. Finger Wharf was originally built in 1910 as a wool and cargo handling facility and is now a an entertainment district in its own right with some of the city's best restaurants and bars.

The Rooms:

There are 100 guestrooms which include 36 loft suites and most of them have harbour views with the Sydney skyline and Botanic Gardens on one side of the hotel, and the Garden Island Naval Base and the suburb of Potts Point on the other. Each of the rooms has its own distinct character with contemporary design blending with the historic structure of the wharf. The rooms with city and Potts Point views feature floor to ceiling windows which help to add to the "Sex and the City" vibe of the place.

Dining:

BLUE Sydney has its own eatery called BLUE Cafe which is located in the middle of the hotel complex and it specialises in great breakfasts and does good coffee and snacks throughout the day. There is no BLUE Sydney restaurant as such, but there are six high quality restaurants within Finger Wharf which do charge-back to guests staying at the hotel. These include Otto Ristorante, Manta, China Doll, Criniti's, Kingsleys Steak & Crab House and Aki's Indian Restaurant.

Other Facilities:

Waterbar is the heart and soul of the hotel, and like the BLUE Cafe, it's in the heart of Finger Wharf with some fantastic architecuture of a bygone era brought back to life. Waterbar won the Australian Hotels Association 2011 Bar of the Year Award and this is one of Sydney's most chic drinking establishments. BLUE also has a fitness centre and a 17 metre heated indoor pool and there's also an outdoor sun deck to catch some rays.

The Verdict:

This is a true boutique hotel with elegant and unique design touches, and it comes with the attentive service of a true five star hotel.
