Overview:

Business travellers demand more out of a lounge these days, and the ante has decidedly been upped among the premium airlines. This lounge had plenty to offer, from quiet spots in which to watch TV or do business, to more busy sociable areas if you are looking for company. And there were plenty of creature comforts, even some unusual coffee tables with interactive computer games built into them.

Comfort & Layout:

All in all, I ended up with only about 45 minutes before my flight was called. The time went by quickly, probably due to the company I had, and my only quibble was how bright the lighting was in the whole lounge - it wasn't especially easy on the eyes. Admittedly it was late at night, and consequently the lounge wasn't busy, but I got the feeling that even if it was it was so spacious with many nooks and crannies it would still provide travellers with quiet oasis before taking on a long haul flight.

Food & Drinks:

As I was on such a late flight, and having had dinner earlier, I didn't feel in the need to eat anything, but the range of hot and cold foods available looked impressive all the same. The bar looked well stocked and there was a juice bar as well. I also didn't have time to check out the Timeless Spa, but from what I understand if offers a range of treatments from massage to hairstyling at a nominal fee.

Internet & Newspapers:

A decent range of daily newspapers from around the world and lots of new glossy travel and lifestyle and business magazines. There's also complimentary wi-fi throughout the lounge.

Business Centre:

The Emirates business class lounge has two business centres and a conference room. PC's with broadband internet are available with printers.

The Verdict:

My flight from Dubai to Sydney, EK414, departed at the rather unsociable hour of just after 2am, so it was a blessing to have a quiet, comfortable lounge in which to wile away the time before boarding. And as I discovered, it was worth leaving my accommodation with plenty of time to spare.

If you travel in business with Emirates from Dubai, you have your very own drop off area at the entrance to Terminal 3, as well as free concierge services should you need them. As a result, this makes the transition from kerb-side to the business class lounge quick and easy. It could have been the time of night I was checking in, but there were absolutely no queues anywhere, and plenty of staffed check-in decks, and people on hand to help with bags, or to answer any queries. The service here was efficient and business-like.

Given the late departure, and as I was travelling with two work colleagues (they were on different flights) we opted for a quiet corner near the bar area to chill out and enjoy a glass of French champagne to say our farewells. If you were a transit passenger with a long wait between flights, it would be perfectly comfortable to spend an extended period of time here.
