The Flight
Flight 593 - Copenhagen to Brussels
This flight departs at 9.15am with a flying time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. As with most domestic flights these days, there are rarely any spare seats on this flight with three categories: business, economy extra and economy.
Before the Flight
We couldn't check in online as the system wouldn’t let us for some reason but at the dedicated business check-in, the process was quick and easy. The lines at economy check-in were okay, probably because most of the local passengers had checked in online before arriving at the airport. We were shown to the fast track system which gets you through security very quickly and painlessly which meant we had more time than we’d hoped for in the Copenhagen SAS lounge before the flight. The lounge itself is very modern and contemporary in design with an array of comfy lounges, armchairs and work desks and chairs spread out to create a feeling of space. Wifi internet is complimentary and various European newspapers and magazines were available for travellers. It’s a pretty basic set-up for food and drinks with a contintental breakfast on offer featuring coffees, teas, juices, cereals, toast and cold meats and cheeses the main offerings. There’s also a self-service bar with a decent selection of beers and wines and a few spirits for those flying later in the day. Boarding time for all SAS flights are called by staff in the lounge.
The Equipment
On this flight it was an MD80. The configuration featured just two rows of two seats in business class, then two rows of economy extra with three seats in each, and then economy. Economy extra basically gives you a little more legroom. Aircraft decor was white walls with dark blue carpet. We were in seats 1A and 1B and although seat pitch was reasonable, if you’re on the other side of the aisle in 1D or F you get about an additional 6 inches or so of room.
Food and Wine
In business, food and beverages are included in the fare while in economy you pay for them. As it was a morning flight we were served breakfast which consisted of yoghurt with passion fruit topping, breads and a bowl with ham, brie, lettuce and a slice of red capsicum. We were also served coffee, tea and water.
The Seat and Everything Else
As you’d expect from SAS crew, they were very courteous and spoke excellent English. The extra space is always nice to have and perhaps the best part of being in business is that if you’re travelling light you can be off the plane first and out of most terminals in less than 10 minutes. It is domestic business class, not international, so there are no lie-flat seats and extravagant meal services, just a simple and efficient experience which means you arrive at your destination calm and relaxed.
