BEAUTY PRODUCT OF THE WEEK - Bottega Veneta

by Joanna Hall

Say "Bottega Veneta" to a person in the know and they're not likely to think about fragrance - until now. Since its establishment in 1966, this famous Italian brand has been renowned for exquisite leather goods, using outstanding craftsmanship, and top quality materials.

In 2001, Tomas Maier joined the company as Creative Director, sparking a renaissance in the brand, and re-establishing Bottega Veneta as one of the world's top houses of luxury goods. Fast forward to 2011, and he's also the creative force behind its first fragrance, which has just launched.

Designed to mimick the feeling of the Venetian countryside, this self-named fragrance is captured in a gorgeous, simple bottle inspired by Venetian glasswork and boasting smooth curves, and adorned with a brunito cap and collar, and a skin-coloured leather ribbon clipped with a brunito butterfly.

The fragrance is sensual and full bodied without being overpowering, with a backbone of bergamot, patchouli and oak moss. Although clearly Italian, some of its other ingredients trace a global path, including Jasmine Sambac from India, and pink peppercorns from Brazil.

This beautiful and very feminine scent was composed by the master perfumer, Michel Almairac, and defies you not to feel sexy and womanly if you wear it. A must for summer.
